TED talk by Amy Cuddy – Your body language may shape who you are.
Do a power pose.
When you must do something that makes you nervous, or you feel like you are not good enough to be doing something or belonging somewhere, do a quick 1 minute power pose which will temporarily make you more confident. Helpful for interviews, presentations, dates, competition, etc.
What’s a power pose?
Open up your arms and take up space.
- Science-backed: will increase testosterone which makes you more confident and risk-tolerant.
- Experiments-backed: people who did this had higher chance of being selected for job offers.
Fake it till you become it.
This is a good mindset to remember whenever you’re in a new and uncomfortable situation (Ex: you got into Harvard and think you don’t belong).
It is natural for people to end up in uncomfortable situations as they get better and better at something. The only way to no longer feel uncomfortable is to “fake it” and pretend you belong or that you can do it. Eventually, you get used to it, and no longer have to “fake it.” You’ve actually become what you originally thought you couldn’t become.
